This six week Introduction to Bookbinding course is designed to welcome you into the rich heritage of traditional bookbinding.

On the course you will learn bookbinding from scratch, including how to use the tools and materials, be introduced to bookbinding terminology and by the end of the six weeks you will have completed a set of finished books which you can use yourself or gift to your loved ones.

As part of the course, we will also explore bookbinding from across the world and see how different cultures made books using the materials and tools they had available to them.

You will learn how to measure, pierce and sew signatures and simple sewn book structures, make hard and soft cover books and explore no sew books incorporating origami folding.

Tool Kits

Your ticket includes a basic tool kit which will be supplied to you in the first lesson. All materials are also included within the ticket price. There is no need to bring anything except your enthusiasm!

Online Tuition

I advise students to take notes along the way, however if you would like to receive online video tutorials so you can make the books at home, you can also purchase the online course for 50% off (when purchased with this in person course). Each weeks tutorials will be emailed to you the day after the course. There is lifetime access, so you can log in anytime.

Who is the course for?

This is an adult course aimed at the absolute beginner. It could also act as a refresher course if you have done some bookbinding before, but need an overview of the basics.

I’ve done bookbinding before, will you be doing an Advanced course?

Yes! An advanced course is on the way. Join the mailing list to get the information when it gets released
