Sewing Circle depicts book pages stitched around a sewing hoop using the coptic stitch used in bookbinding. In the traditional bindery women would only be allowed to do the folding and sewing of books, a role which mirrored their domestic life. While men made the covers and took the credit. These sculptures focus in on the 'Women's work' and reveal the beauty that lies beneath the book.
This piece is made with cotton rag paper dipped in tea + iron pigment stitched around a wooden ring.
