INTRODUCTION TO JAPANESE STAB BINDING
This course will introduce you to the stab binding method found in East Asian bookbinding. You will learn how to stack paper, make covers and prepare your papers ready for a variety of stab binding designs.
On this online course you will create three books of the same size, each with a different binding design:
- There hole binding
- Noble binding
- Hemp Leaf binding
You will also create a Japanese slip case for your books to be held within. We will create a hard cover slipcase using book cloth and greyboard. Photos also show creating a slipcase box in decorative paper. We just make one box on the course but both paper and cloth are provided in the kit, so you can choose which covering to use.
